Bronzes by Capriola
Beginning in 2015, Robert Capriola began working in bronze under the guidance of Don Whaley of Sacramento. The process of producing bronze works differs completely from carving decoys, and represented an initial challenge for the artist. Originals can be created in wood, clay, or wax, but the cast models must be made of wax, either as originals, or cast from molds made from the wood or clay originals. Once cast by the foundry, often in multiple pieces, the work is reassembled, and metalwork finished. Color is added, not by paint, but by "patina", which is created with the reaction of heat, chemicals, and the bronze surface.
