Don Whaley (1944-2023) Mallard pr. $500
Extremely hollow and lightweight, signed and dated 1989 by the carver. Whaley was from Sacramento and was noted for his working and decorative decoys as well as for his extensive body of work completed in bronze during his later years.
Hen Mallard $125
Labeled "Alameda Decoy Company" and made from WWII life raft balsa in the 1950's. San Francisco Bay Area origin. Good condition with little wear.
Bill Pinches 1944-2017 Green-Winged Teal $250
Signed and dated 1986 by the maker. Likely carved from redwood, made hollow, and fitted with keel. Pinches was a full time carver from the late 1970's until his death in 2017. He was a mentor to many of the very successful young carvers from the Humboldt Bay California region.
Ernie Johnson Brant (b. 1905) $400
One of 52 similar decoys carved by Johnson of Nanaimo, Vancouver Island Canada circa 1940. Featured on page 29 of Wildfowl Decoys of the Pacific Coast (Miller and Hanson 1989). Hollow carved with tail reinforced by copper sheeting and featuring a removeable neck and head. A true piece of folk art.
Troon and Troon Green-Winged Teal $425
Hollow carved teal by Dick Troon of Applegate Valley Oregon (1928-2011). Painted by Dick's wife, "Jinx" Troon. Fitted with original keel and anchor line with weight. No signature or date, but estimated to have been made sometime in the 1980's. Dick and Jinx were recognized among the best early contemporary carvers on the West Coast, and were instrumental in the founding of the Pacific Flyway Decoy Association in the late 1970's
Edward Vidmar (b. 1922) Pintail Pair $200
A very similar pair (ca. 1950) is featured on page 302 in Wildfowl Decoys of the Pacific Coast (Miller and Hanson 1989). In original, but worn condition with pintail tail dowel missing. Drake is in unusual preening position.
Don Whaley (1944-2023) Canada Goose $250
Canvas over wire frame in the style of the Outer Banks decoys of the Carolinas (1988). Wooden bottom board, head and keel. From Rob Capriola's personal hunting rig. Moderate wear. Signed by the maker and branded "RC".
Jack Rautienen (1941-1987) $175
Hollow-carved from redwood and painted in oils, in excellent condition. Signed and dated 1985 by the maker.
Caz Russell Hen Ruddy $150
Branded, signed, and dated by the maker. Caz is a renowned author and speaker in addition to his talents as a carver and painter.
Marty Hanson Black Brant $1,250
By renowned carver Marty Hanson of Hayward Wisconsin ca. 1992. Carved from northern white cedar and painted in oils, this bird exhibits exceptional carving and painting detail from the bill through the tail. Unsigned, but branded "MH" on the bottom.
Kevin Williams Brant $175
Hollow-carved with chip finish. Wear and patina by the maker. Neck cracked and repaired. Initials carved in the bottom, but no date.
Joe Green Ruddy Ducks $300 pr.
Hollow-carved and painted in oils, and signed by the maker in 1993. Keels removed. From the hunting rig of Rob Capriola.
